A court in Chattogram yesterday sent a policeman's wife to jail in connection with a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing wealth of Tk 1.38 crore from unknown sources.

The court of Metropolitan Session Judge Ashfaqur Rahaman sent Gulzar Begum, wife of Sub-Inspector Nowab Ali of Criminal Investigation Department, to jail after she appeared before the court and submitted bail prayer, said PP Mahmudul Islam of ACC. The court rejected the bail prayer and sent her to jail, he added.

Mahmudul said "The couple had secured bail from the High Court earlier. But hey did not appear before the lower court on completion of bail, and a court cancelled their bail and issued arrest warrant."

ACC had filed a case against Nawab and Gulzar on March 10, 2019 for accumulating wealth of 1.38 crore beyond known sources of income. Deputy Director Ali Akbar of ACC Dhaka submitted the charge sheet in the case, implicating the couple and two tax officials of Chattogram Tax Office on October 7 last year.
