Ctg Manila hill owner fined Tk 10 lakh for landslide

The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined the owner of Manila hill Tk 10 lakh for keeping 2,500 sacks of sand on the hill slope which resulted in a landslide in Chittagong city on Sunday.

Ziad Rahman, owner of the hill, kept the sacks on the hill slope without consulting any engineer or the hill managing committee, said Azadur Rahman Mallick, director of DoE Chittagong (metrop

olitan).

As a result, a portion of the hill collapsed on the west side of the main building of District Shilpakala Academy and damaged its wall and windows, he added.

The owner was also ordered to take initiative to repair the damaged portion of the academy and pay the fine within seven days.

The order was given following a two-day hearing.
