Death anniversary

Today is the first death anniversary of Shamsun Nahar Rahman Paran, founder of Ghasful, an NGO working for Chittagong's most vulnerable population since 1972.

Born in 1940, Nahar, more known as Paran Apa, began her social work in her mid-30s after completing her bachelor's degree and while raising five children.

Her organisation soon became a well-known NGO working on women empowerment and meeting the basic needs of vulnerable children.

Nahar played a significant role in seeking funds, medicines and materials from people to help the freedom fighters during the 1971 Liberation War. She also inspired youths to join the struggle.
