DPDC penalises businesses, houses for power pilferage

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) during a three-week taskforce drive until yesterday fined 10 businesses and individuals Tk 14 crore in penalty and dues for pilferage of electricity, said an official handout.

The businesses -- including chemical factory, rubber and plastic industries -- and six houses are located in different parts of the capital including Kamrangirchar, Demra, Shamoli, Tejgaon and Jigatola. The taskforce identified that 6.5 lakh units of electricity had been pilfered and imposed fines amounting to Tk 99 lakh. It also severed 14 power connections. The aggregated revenue realized included dues of eight years.
