An extensive road repairing initiative is underway, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon said yesterday.

"If you find streets near you broken, inform me or local councillors, we will repair them," he said while addressing a cleaning campaign organised by DSCC and different non-government organisations at the capital's Shaheed Minar.

Khokon said, "DSCC is facing acute fund crisis, even though the prime minister has approved a project to repair 275 to 300 streets at a time from January."

"This is your city, keep it clean," the mayor who inaugurated the campaign, urged.

He also promised to set up 15,000 trash bins on the streets of south Dhaka in phases, 5,000 of which will be set up by this year.

The mayor also urged all to participate in a symbolic cleaning campaign on February 14, observed as Valentine's Day, to show their love towards the city.

Representatives of Concern Worldwide, Sajeda Foundation, Ain o Salish Kendra, Brac and other NGOs participated in the campaign.
