Mohammad Yusuf heard a lot about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his parents, schoolteachers and relatives. He also knew about him from newspapers.

But when the 17-year-old reached the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where a photo exhibition on Bangabandhu's life was going on yesterday, he understood that how little he knew about the father of the nation.

"I got a glimpse of the great leader. I am so surprised to know that despite being such a great leader, he used to lead a simple life with no lavishness, which proves he was a leader of the masses," Yusuf said, who came from Mirpur along with his friends.

"I saw the paper clippings which are put on display and photographs and came to know about his dedication for this country."

Not only Yusuf, other visitors including children also got an idea about the leader.

Fatima, a second-grader from the capital's Green Road, said her father told her before about Bangabandhu, but yesterday she learnt more.

Md Sadullaha, 72, who came from Kishoreganj, could not hold tears while standing a photo showing Bangabandhu with his family members.

When asked, he said it evoked memories of the past.

"I saw the leader several times," he said, adding that it was very easy to meet with him.

The Dhaka North City Corporation has arranged a three-day photo exhibition titled Chitrrogathai Shokgatha at Sangsad to mark the 40th death anniversary of Bangabandhu.

The exhibition, inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday, will close today.

DNCC Mayor Annisul Haque said they put on exhibition for 131 photographs and 60 newspaper clippings.

They also put some letters of Bangabandhu on display as well. He said a photo of Bangabandhu was shown at the exhibition for the first time that was taken at his residence after his release from jail in the Agartala conspiracy case in 1969.
