HC stays suspension of Sherpur mayor

The High Court yesterday stayed a government order to suspend Mayor Shadin Kumar Kundu of Sherpur municipality of Bogra for two months.  

Hearing a writ petition filed by Shadin, the HC also issued a rule upon the government to explain why the suspension should not be declared illegal.

Petitioner's counsel HM Shanjid Siddique told The Daily Star that the LGRD ministry suspended his client from the mayoral post on September 14 on charges of committing improprieties with the fund of the municipality.

Shadin did not commit any irregularities as all panel mayors and councilors of the municipality signed the resolutions of the decisions, he added.
