HRFB condemns Kalabagan killings
Killing of progressive persons continue as the government and law enforcers are failing to conduct proper investigations into similar crimes committed in the past, said Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB) yesterday.
The platform of 19 human rights organisations also slammed "responsible persons of the government" for claiming that the crime was an "isolated incident" and "everything is under control after the incident".
Such claims, as well as shifting blames on others are deeply troubling and also encouraging the killers, said a statement issued by its convener Sultana Kamal.
Expressing grave concern and condemning the killing of rights activist Xulhaz Mannan and actor Mahbub Tonoy, the statement said it is the constitutional duty of the government to ensure safety of every citizen.
Xulhaz, and his friend Tonoy were hacked to death by a gang of five/six assailants who entered his Kalabagan flat posing as couriers on Monday afternoon.
