Increase gas supply ahead of Eid
The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president yesterday urged prime minister's energy advisor to take immediate action to mitigate gas crisis that has almost been crippling the daily life for last one month in Chittagong.
The president, Mahabubul Alam, sent a letter to the advisor where he mentioned that production in small, medium and large industries in the district is getting hampered and thereby incurring a heavy loss. Export oriented industries are losing work orders but the owners have to pay workers as well as interests on bank loans timely.
Besides, households, hospitals and CNG filling stations are also being provided with less gas than required. The port city needs some 550 million cubic feet gas per day but only 228 million cubic feet is being supplied at present. Moreover, the compressor needs to be updated to increase pressure in the pipeline.
The president urged the advisor to increase the supply in the industrial zone ahead of Eid-ul-Azha even if it needs to reduce supply in other areas.
