Indonesian food festival in Dhaka from Aug 30

A week-long Indonesian food festival “A taste of Indonesia” will begin at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city on August 30.

“It will be an occasion of celebrating the authentic culinary diversities that Indonesia has to offer,” said Murni Nyaristi, third secretary for information, social and cultural affairs at the Indonesian embassy in Dhaka, at a press conference at Sonargaon Hotel today.

Café Bazar restaurant of the hotel will host the promotional where noted Indonesian chef Eko Cahyo will enthrall the guests with his mouthwatering delights. Food lovers can taste numerous Indonesian cuisines including flavourful beef rendang, Indonesian laksa, gado-gado, sop buntut in exchange of Tk 4000 per person at the food festival.

Indonesia, which is known for spices around the world, not only has spicy food, but also have variety of food because of diversity of people in some 17,000 of islands.

“The dinner only event will put many luscious Indonesian dishes on the spotlight and while enjoying the dinner, all the guests will get to see live Indonesian dance performance,” said Murni Nyaristi.

She said Bangladesh and Indonesia have a lot of similarities in food and cultures and bilateral relations are good.

“We want to strengthen this tie through cultural exchanges and people to people contact,” Murni said.

Bangladesh is a major trade partner of Indonesia, which exported products worth $1.93 billion to Bangladesh last year. Bangladesh’s export to Indonesia, however, is still nominal.
