IUB holds conference on Bay of Bengal as connectivity hub
To consider the feasibility of reviving this new interconnectedness and interlocution, the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies (CBoBS) at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has organised a two-day regional conference on the university's Bashundhara campus.
The programme was supported by the Embassy of Japan along with High Commission of India, BIMSTEC, the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, said a press release.
Its inaugural ceremony took place yesterday where Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen was present as the chief guest.
Other invited guests were Ito Naoki, ambassador of Japan; Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India; Ambassador Tenzin Lekphell, secretary general of BIMSTEC, Dhaka; Mercy Tembon, country director, WB; Manmohan Parkash, country director, ADB; Trustee A Matin Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; and Prof Tanweer Hasan, vice chancellor of IUB.
Prof Milan Pagon, IUB pro-VC, delivered vote of thanks while Ambassador (Ret) Tariq Karim, director, Center for Bay of Bengal Studies at IUB, moderated the session.
Various recommendations and reports will be formed through this two-day conference by the regional experts, researchers, scholars, diplomats and development partners that will eventually be submitted to the governments for effective implementation in securing prosperity of the region.
Trustees, diplomats, dignitaries, members from the faculty and administration, students and alumni took part in the event.
