Poriborton Chai's cleanliness drive on February 6
Poriborton Chai, a social organisation registered as a trust, announced that its volunteers will clean up different parts of the country simultaneously on February 6 next year to promote environmental awareness with dissemination of its core message, "Let's clean up the country."
Around 1 lakh volunteers are expected to take part in the clean-up activities across the country on the day, said Fida Haq, chairman of the organisation, at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club yesterday.
He said every year they will observe first Saturday of February as "Deshtake Porishkar Kori Dibosh" (the day for cleaning up the country). He said the clean-up activities would start at 11:00am and continue till 1:00pm at least one or two places of a district in the country. He said they would set up 1,000 more dustbins in the country as part of its activities. Such clean-up activities already have been conducted in Sylhet, Rajshahi and Chittagong, he said volunteers clean their own residences or offices or important areas or open spaces on the day, he added.
Kamrul Ahsan Khan, convener of Bangladesh Environment Network, an Australia-based NGO, Samia Chowdhury, deputy head (communication) of Mutual Trust Bank, and architect Tughlaq Azad were also present.
