Rajuk reclaims more parking lots, roads, footpaths

Three teams of Rajuk cleared illegally occupied car parking spaces at over a dozen buildings in Gulshan, Uttara and Dhanmondi in the capital yesterday. 

The Gulshan team fined three building owners Tk 3 lakh for illegally occupying parking lots on Gulshan Avenue and demolished an illegally built structure in place of basement parking at the Cats Eye fashion house building and a metal staircase of Movenpick ice-cream parlour, said Md Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, executive magistrate.

National Bank Limited and One Bank Limited were also fined for illegally occupying ground floor parking, he said.

Khandokar Zakir Hossain, executive magistrate, who conducted the Uttara drive, said they demolished illegal structures built at the ground floor parking of four buildings on Gausul Azam Avenue and dismantled six access ramps built illegally occupying footpaths and road width.  

They also penalised a building owner for setting up a readymade garments outlet at the ground floor parking on the same avenue, he added.  

The Dhanmondi team demolished Bonoful and Muslim sweet shops, a car showroom and a confectionary illegally built in place of ground floor parking spaces, said Md Nasir Uddin, executive magistrate, and penalised a tiles warehouse and others Tk 8 lakh.

Rajuk launched the drives simultaneously in Gulshan, Uttara and Dhanmondi on January 18 in a bid to recover the designated car parking spaces and remove illegal access ramps built occupying footpaths and road width.
