Road crashes kill 8 including 8-year-old boy, injure 30
Eight people, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed and 30 others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday.
In Gaibandha, the eight-year-old boy was killed and his father injured when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind on Rangpur-Bogra highway at Balua.
The deceased was Refat, son of Mokles Ali of the area.
Following the incident, locals blocked the highway with tree logs for two hours. Vehicular movement on the highway came to a halt for two hours, said police.
In Naogaon Sadar, five people were killed and three others injured when a truck rammed a battery-run auto-rickshaw carrying them on Naogaon-Rajshahi highway at Daktarmor.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
In Sylhet, two people were killed and seven others injured as a pickup-van, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a rickshaw-van collided on Sylhet-Dhaka highway in Osmaninagar upazila.
One of the deceased was Rakib-Ud-Dowla, 35, of Jamalpur. The identity of the other, aged around 60, could not be known immediately.
In Munshiganj, Awal Roni, 17, of Satkhira was killed when a truck ran him over on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Baluakandi area of Gazaria upazila.
In Pirojpur, 20 passengers were injured as a bus fell into a ditch beside Pirojpur-Gopalgonj road as the driver lost control over the vehicle in Boro Baghajhora village of Nazirpur upazila.
