Five thousands bins will be set at different points of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) this year, Mayor Sayeed Khokon said yesterday.

"We are trying to raise awareness among people," he said while addressing a programme of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), as the part of "Clean Dhaka 2016" campaign.

Khokon, the programme's chief guest, said "Citizens should dump wastes at designated places after 7:00pm, from where corporation's workers will collect…defaulters will be fined after the awareness raising programmes are over, but it will take time."

Sayeed Khokon also informed that programmes will be carried throughout the year.

All the city street lights will be replaced with LED lights from February 21, while repairing of 275 to 300 city roads have already begun, the mayor said.

He urged the city dwellers to bear with the inconvenience till the works are done.

Actor Sabbir Ahmed and actress Bidya Sinha Mim attended yesterday's programme and expressed their solidarity.

Mizanur Rahman, BRTC chairman, chaired the programme.
