Two held for ‘killing their daughters’ in Rangpur, Dinajpur

Police arrested two women for allegedly killing their daughters in two separate incidents in Rangpur and Dinajpur yesterday. 

Nurnahar Begum (47) of Rangpur's Badarganj and Ratna Begum (26) of Dinajpur's Parbatipur were sent to jail after they were produced before local courts.

On Friday night, after being informed, officers of Badarganj Police Station recovered the slit-throat body of Sultana Akter (25), student of a local madrasa and Nurnahar's daughter, from her bedroom.

According to family members and villagers, Sultana was resting in her room on Friday afternoon. Around evening, family members found her dead there.

Police sent the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for autopsy, said Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Sultana's uncle, Serajul filed a case with the police station, accusing Nurnahar, the OC said.

In Dinajpur on Friday noon, Ratna allegedly strangled her five-year-old daughter to death and later, threw the body in a pond.

Being informed, Parbatipur upazila's police recovered the body and sent it to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.

The mother was mentally ill, said police.

Abdullah Al Mamun, OC of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Parbatipur, said the arrestee was sent to a local jail.

Meanwhile, Rupa Akter (16), daughter of Rafiqul Islam from Badarganj, was found dead yesterday. Police said the girl died by suicide over a family dispute.

Police recovered the body and sent it to RMCH for autopsy yesterday afternoon, they added.
