Two suspected lawyers get bail

A Chittagong court yesterday granted bail to two lawyers, who were arrested over funding a Chittagong-based militant outfit, Shaheed Hamza Brigade, in a case filed under anti-terrorism act with Hathazari Police Station.

On August 18, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-7 arrested the two, Supreme Court lawyer Md Hasanuzzaman Litan and Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapan, in the capital's Dhamondi for depositing Tk 1.08 crore to the bank account of a key person of the outfit.

Earlier on February 19, Rab-7 arrested 12 alleged militants at a madrasa in Chittagong's Hathazari upazila and on February 23 the elite force showed the two lawyers along with another Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Shakila Farzana arrested in the case for their involvement in funding a militant training camp at the madrasa, said Public Prosecutor Abul Hashem.
