Volunteers of Bidyanondo attacked in city
Four volunteers of Bidyanondo Foundation were injured in an attack while they were distributing food among children at Kalshi in Dhaka yesterday afternoon.
Biplob Hossain, Fatema, Ashraful and Shahidul were rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment, said Salman Khan, head of communications of the voluntary organisation.
Salman said they were distributing food among children like every day under the foundation's "Ek Takay Ahar" programme at Kalshi when four to five youths arrived there and demanded food.
"As we said these were for children, they misbehaved with us and, at one stage, they attacked us, getting on our pickup van," he said.
"Some of them attacked our female colleagues and snatched Tk 5,000 and a mobile phone," he further said.
The volunteers captured one of them, primarily identified as Shahidul (21), while the rest fled, Salman said.
Filing of a case in this regard with Pallabi Police Station was underway, said Salman Khan.
