Woman loses leg after bus ploughs through footpath
A woman lost one of her legs after a bus ploughed through a footpath in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor area this afternoon.
Krishna Roy Chowdhury, 55, is an assistant manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
She was going to an ATM booth near her office at Bangla Motor when a bus of Trust Paribahan ploughed through the footpath after its driver lost control over the steering around 2:30pm.
The victim sustained severe injuries on her head and left leg, our staff correspondent reports quoting her husband Radhe Shyam Chowdhury.
The bus driver allegedly was competing with another bus, causing the accident, the victim’s husband quoted Krishna as saying.
The victim was first taken to Holy Family Hospital and later shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly called Pangu Hospital, where doctors amputated her leg below the knee through an operation.
The bus driver and his helper fled the scene leaving their vehicle in the area. The vehicle later was seized by the law enforcers, according to Hatirjheel police.
