Youth drowns in Chattogram waterfall

A man drowned in a waterfall in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram this morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Mehedi Hasan, 21, a worker of Chittagong Export Processing Zone (EPZ), said Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters in the port city.

The incident took place at “Ruposi Jhorna” in Hajalkhain area around 10:00pm, our staff correspondent reports.

Akhter Hossain, divers’ team leader of the fire service, said, Mehedi went to the waterfall along with his friends in the morning to enjoy their Eid holidays.

He slipped off from top of the stream and fell off into the waterbody which is 30 feet deep and drowned, Akhter said adding that on information fire service divers from Agrabad rushed to the spot and recovered the body around 1:30pm.

The body was handed over to Mirsarai Police Station.
