“Stop this butchery,” published on January 23, 2015

Mortuza Huq
Another good piece by Mr Anam as usual. However, I think he should have emphasized and explored the root cause of the current crisis and should have asked Hasina to accept people's legitimate demand and take necessary measures to hold a credible election.
BNP led 20 party opposition showed maximum restraint (for last 12 months) for a peaceful settlement of the current political deadlock by dialogue in order to hold an election that is acceptable to the people. Hasina's regime, unfortunately, not only gave a cold shoulder to the legitimate demand of the people, she herself and her party leaders ridiculed BNP's capacity to organise any movement to challenge the government. Therefore, Hasina will have to take responsibilities for all the sufferings of the people and anything that may go wrong   and any inconvenience created to the citizens of this country.

All sensible citizens of this country will chime in with the learned editor Mahfuz Anam in denouncing BNP-Jamaat's cruel and mindless killing of innocent people and torching vehicles, public and private properties. What does the BNP chief want to achieve by this?
According to the recent report published by the House of Commons, the sincerity of Khaleda Zia's commitment to democracy is being questioned by many analysts.

Salim Ullah
Khaleda Zia, who was three times Prime Minister, having enough experience, should understand the pulse of the people and their unbearable sufferings and, accordingly,  utilize her wisdom  to immediately mitigate people's sufferings.

“Khaleda to be tried” (January 21, 2015)

Kamrul Manir
Why doesn't the PM resign from the government and arrange a general election in the quickest possible time? It is the best means to resolve the crisis. Governing the country without fair election is a violation of human rights. Article 21 of the UN charter of universal human rights of 1948 clearly declared it.

Siraj
PM should be more tactful in the efforts to curb terrorism; only arresting the top BNP leaders may not serve the purpose. It may rather escalate terrorism.

“Unthinking and cruel” (January 21, 2015)

Molla A. Latif
It is “the most anti-people, unimaginative, cruel and destructive programme" and simply inhuman.

Hafeejul Alam
Indeed the nation has been taken aback by the "unthinking and cruel" decision of the BNP chief to continue with the so called blockade.
