50 hurt in Jhenidah village clash

At least 50 people were injured, including ten women, and 20 houses were ransacked in a clash between two groups of people of a village in Shailakupa upazila, Jhenidah this morning.

Followers of at Monoharpur union parishad (UP) member Israil Hossain and local leader Motiar Rahman got involved in the clash in Paikpara village following an altercation on Friday night over the past upazila election, Bazlur Rahman,  officer-in-charge (OC) of Shailakupa Police Station, told our local correspondent.

Of the injured 44 persons are admitted into Shailakupa Upazila Health Complex and six others were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.

During the clash, the groups vandalised 20 houses, he said adding that additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.

A long standing conflict prevailed between Israil Hossain and Motiar Rahman over establishing supremacy in the area, the OC said adding that as a sequel to the previous conflicts the villagers locked into the clash.
