10 hurt in Jessore post-poll clash

Ten people were injured in a post-polls clash at Kahlia village in Jahurpur union under Bagharpara upazila of Jessore district last night.

Locals said the clash ensued after the supporters of defeated member candidate Ansar Ali swooped on supporters of elected member candidate Shafiqul Islam because Shafiqul  berated Ansar Ali at the village.

Both groups used sticks and other weapons during the clash that gradually spread over the entire village and the adjacent areas.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after an hour. Police arrested two supporters of Ansar Ali.

Md Syeruddin  officer-in-charge of  Bagharpara Police Station, said around 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash. They were admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital. A case was filed in this connection, he added.
