12 BNP-Jamaat men held in 3 districts

Twelve BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men were arrested in Mymensingh, Patuakhali and Jhenidah districts yesterday and the day before.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three Shibir men at a house in Mymensingh town on Saturday while they were holding a secret meeting there, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees are Golam Rabbani Roman, 24, Badal Ashraf, 24, and Mosharraf Hossain, 28.

Of them, Roman and Badal are students of Bangladesh Agricultural University while Mosharraf of Government Ananda Mohan College, said Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge of DB police.

Meanwhile, police in separate drives arrested ameer of Muktagachha municipality unit of Jamaat Aftab Uddin, 47, Shibir activist Ratan Miah, 28, Bokainagar union BNP vice president Sharif Ahmed, 40, and JCD activist Kawsar Ahmed, 22, in Dhubaura, Gouripur and Trishal upazilas of the district the same day.

The four are accused in several cases, including one for arson attack, said police.

Away in Patuakhali, the law enforcers arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami at Dakkhin Muradia village in Dumki upazila of the district yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The arrestee is Maulana Mojibur Rahman, an activist of the upazila unit of Jamaat, and Arabic lecturer of Dakkhin Muradia Mohila Fazil Madrasa. 

He was allegedly involved in anti-state activities, said OC Azam Khan Faruquee of Dumki Police Station.

In Jhenidah, police in a drive arrested four Shibir men with leaflets, receipt and Jihadi books in Moheshpur upazila town of the district on Saturday night, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees are Omar Ali, 22, son of Shukur Ali of Poilanpur village in the upazila, Samiul Islam, 18, son of Mizanur Rahman, Binu Sheikh, 24, son of Nobis Uddin, and Monir Hossain, 25, son of Makbul Hossain of the village.

Shahidul Islam Shahin, officer-in-charge of Moheshpur Police Station, confirmed the incident.
