430 sued for obstructing mobile court, vandalising govt office
At least 430 people have been sued on charges of creating obstacle to performing duty by a mobile court and vandalising the office of assistant commissioner (Land) in Sherpur upazila of the district.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Firozul Islam filed the two cases with Sherpur Police Station on Sunday night, said Officer-in-Charge Khan Md Erfan.
Of the accused, former councillor of Sherpur municipality Chandan Kumar Das Rinku, also general secretary of upazila Puja Udjapon Committee, was sued in a case for preventing the court from the seizure of the machines and other equipment used for sand lifting illegally from the bed of the Karatoa River in the uapzila.
Police are raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the OC.
When a mobile court, led by the AC, raided Mohashashan ghat area in the municipality on Sunday noon, local people created obstacle to discharging their duties. They also vandalised the AC office.
On information, police rushed to the spot, seized two shallow machines and other materials from the area and held prime accused Rinku and his accomplice Ratan.
But the two were later released as the angry locals besieged the police station, said police.
