9 Jamaat-Shibir men held

Ten Jamaat-Shibir men were held in Rangpur, Bogra and Noakhali districts yesterday and the day before.

In Rangpur, police in separate drives arrested eight activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Mithapukur upazila and in the city in the last two days, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees are Jamaat activists Wahed Ali, 47, Mominul Islam, 33, Azizul Islam, 45, Farazul Islam, 35, and Abdul Quader, 54; and Shibir activists Mostafa Hossain, 28, Shahidul Islam, 30, and Faruk Hossain, 25.

They were arrested in cases for carrying out subversive activities in the areas, said Additional Superintendent of Police Joynal Abedin.

The arrestees were later produced in the court that sent them to jail, said the ASP.

According to our Bogra correspondent, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a local Jamaat leader on sabotage charge in Kahaloo upazila of the district yesterday.

The arrestee is Tayeb Ali, 68, nayebe ameer of the district unit of Jamaat, and chairman of Kahaloo Upazila Parishad.
