ASI killed in Pabna
An assistant sub-inspector was strangled before his body was dumped near Pakshey Rail Station of Ishwardi upazila on Monday, police said.
ASI Md Sujaul Islam, 35, hailed from Bogra and was posted at Pakshey Police Camp.
"Sujaul was on duty near his camp from 3:00pm to 10:00pm on Sunday. He went missing from duty at 7:00pm and his cellphone was found switched off," Said Biman Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police.
"We could not trace him on Sunday night. His body was found in a field near the station in the morning," the OC added.
Unidentified assailants tied his hands and legs before strangling him, said the OC, adding, they also took away his motorcycle and cellphone.
The police suspect the incident might be a planned one to create panic among the public.
Suja's colleagues working in the area believe drug peddlers and snatchers in the area are their key enemies who have killed him.
"Suja did not compromise with the drug peddlers and criminal groups. He often took steps alone against them," said Md Rezaul Islam, head of Pakshey police camp.
