Police arrested a local BCL leader with a pistol, one bullet and a magazine in this connection.

The arrestee is Ashrafuzzaman Sumon, 28, convener of the upazila unit of BCL, and son of Khalequzzaman Montu of Konabari village in the upazila.

On information, the law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Md Nasir Uddin, officer-in charge of Santhia Police Station.

They also arrested Sumon with the firearm and bullet from the spot, said the OC.

Police and locals said advocate Aminul Islam Patol, law affairs secretary of the upazila unit of AL, called anti-drug meeting at Paina Government Primary School while Lutfar Rahman, ward unit president of AL, called counter programme at the same venue around 4:00pm.

To avoid any untoward incident, the upazila administration imposed Section 144 at the venue from 10:00am to midnight, said OC Md Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bera Police Station.
