Boy found murdered 5 days into 'missing'

Police recovered the hanging body of an 18-year-old boy from an adjacent area in the Sundarbans in Sharankhola upazila of the district on Wednesday, five days into his 'missing'.

The deceased, Tarikuzzaman Talukdar alias Sohag, son of late Badsha Mia Talukdar, was a resident of Uttar Kadamtola village in the upazila.

Quoting victim's mother Taslima Begum, police said Sohag, who used to work at a private firm in the capital, came to his village home recently to include his name in the on going updates of voter's list.

On November 14, Sohag left his home for Dhaka and remained missing since then. Taslim filed a general diary (GD) with Sharankhola Police Station on November 16.

Police said although Taslim filed a missing diary first but recently she claimed that after Sohag had gone missing an unknown caller phoned her and demanded Tk 10 lakh for her son's release.

Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim of the police station said in primary investigation they came to know that Sohag bought a ticket for Dhaka from Sharankhola Central Bus Terminal on the day and later left the place with a biker saying he would board on the bus from Bagerhat town.

Being informed by locals Mawali's (honey collector's) police went to the spot in the afternoon, recovered the decomposed body hanging from a tree and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

After conducting post-mortem examination, his body was buried yesterday, the OC further said.
