Bring schoolboy Mizan's killers to book
Teachers and students of Sadhupara Government Primary School in the town formed a human chain and staged a rally in front of the deputy commissioner's office yesterday, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of schoolboy Mizanur Rahman.
Guardians of the students and residents of Sadhupara also joined the protest programme.
Mizanur Rahman, 12, a Class V student of the school, and son of Harunur Rashid of Rajnarayanpur village in Bera upazila under the district, was hacked to death at Char Koshakhali flood protection embankment early Saturday.
Victim's father filed a case with Sadar Police Station the same day, but police could not arrest any of the killers as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
Rejaur Rahim Lal, president of the school managing committee, and also a member of the district law and order committee, told this correspondent that he had raised the issue at the district law and order committee meeting and asked about the progress of the case.
"The brutal killing of Mizan sparked protest among the townspeople and they demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits," said Rahim Lal.
The protesters later submitted memorandums to the deputy commissioner and the police superintendent.
Contacted, Police Superintendent Md Alamgir Kabir said the killers have been identified and law enforcers are raiding different areas to arrest them. The culprits will be nabbed soon, he added.
