Clash over marriage leaves eight injured
At least eight people were injured in a clash between people of two villages over a 'love marriage' in Bakrachhari area of Sadar upazila on Sunday night.
Of the injured, Tarun Tripura, 20, Tarang Tripura, 40, and Miltu Chakma are undergoing treatment at Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital, under police custody.
Being informed, police went to the spot, arrested seven people and seized two pipe guns from the spot, Mazid Ali, supernatant of police in Khagrachhari, said.
Quoting witnesses, police said Jotirmoy Tripura, son of Dhananjoy Tripura of the area married Ushami Tripura, daughter of Nibaran Tripura of Rannyapara without her family's concern.
Ushami's relatives launched an attack on Jotirmoy's house around 10:00pm and beat up his father, demanding return of their daughter.
Hearing screams, neighbours encircled the attackers and tried to capture them, triggering a clash between the two groups that left eight people from both sides injured.
Law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
