Failing to rape, criminals poison housewife to death

Criminals killed a housewife by pouring poison into her mouth after failed attempt to rape her in Chirirbandar upazila under the district on Sunday night. 

The victim -- Sharifa Begum, 22, wife of Younus Ali of Boardpara village in Chirirbandar upazila, was also mother of a three-year-old daughter.

"Anisur Rahman, 27, and Khabir Uddin, 50, of the same village entered Sharifa's house around 8:30pm on Sunday night and attempted to rape her, finding her alone there," said Arjina Begum, elder sister of the victim.

"As Sharifa resisted repeatedly, the criminals poured poison into her mouth. Hearing her scream, the neighbours rushed there and the criminals fled before them," said her husband Younus Ali.

The villagers immediately took her to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital but she died early Monday, struggling for life for hours there, said her family members.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Contracted, Md Anisur Rahman, officer in charge of Chirirbandar Police Station, said he heard about the incident but victim's family was yet to file any case regarding the incident.

Younus Ali said he will file a case after completing the funeral.
