Fratricide

A man was hacked to death allegedly by his younger brother over a family feud at Bishnupur village in Ishwarganj upazila of the district yesterday.

The victim is Md Shaheen Miah, 25, son of Abu Taher of the village.

Police and family sources said Shaheen fell in love with one Khadija Begum, daughter of Motalab Miah of Netrakona district, and married her three moths ago against his family's wishes.

Since the marriage, family members had been pressing Shaheen to divorce Khadija but Shaheen did not agree with them, resulting in quarrels now and then, said Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Ishwarganj Police Station.

Shaheen had an altercation with his mother over the issue around 10:00am yesterday.

At one stage, Shaheen's younger brother Mamun Miah, 21, attacked him with a sharp weapon. He died on the spot.

Local people caught Mamun and handed over him to police. A case was filed in this connection.
