Garment worker, physically challenged kid raped

A teenage garment worker and a physically challenged eight-year-old girl were raped in Gaibandha and Sunamganj districts on Thursday.

A fake marriage registrar raped a girl at Nurpur village in Palashbari upazila under the district on Thursday night, reports our Gaibandha correspondent.

The victim, 16, hailing from Hariharpur village in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district, lodged a complaint with Palashbari Police Station on Thursday night, accusing Kazi Shamim, who had falsely claimed himself as fake marriage registrar of Hosainpur union in Palashbari upazila.

The girl worked at a garment factory in Dhaka, and developed an affair with a male colleague although she was already married, police said quoting the girl.

Recently they decided to marry and approached Kazi Shamim, asking suggestion to do it without legal complications.

Shamim suggested the girl to divorce her husband through an affidavit and took her on his motorcycle at 9:00pm on Thursday, saying that they would go to Gaibandha Sadar for the purpose.

But Shamim stopped the vehicle near Eidgah ground at Nurpur village in Palashbari upazila, dragged the girl to the ground and raped her.

Then he fled the scene.

The victim immediately went to Palashbari Police Station and lodged a complaint against Kazi Shamim.

The victim was sent to safe custody in Gaibandha jail after medical test at Gaibandha Sadar Hospital on Friday night and drives are on to arrest the accused, said Sub-inspector Balai Chandra, investigation officer of the case.

Our Moulvibazar Correspondent reports: A physically challenged eight-year-old girl was raped at Fotepur village in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district on Thursday evening.

The alleged rapist, Sahan Miah, 16, son of Yusuf Ali of Fotepur village, took the girl to a nearby paddy field around 7:00pm and raped her.

Hearing screams, neighbours rescued the victim and admitted her to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.

The victim's family filed a case on Friday and police arrested accused Sahan Miah yesterday morning, said Md Harun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Sunamganj Police Station.
