Housewife killed for dowry in Thakurgaon

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Tharkurgaon village in Dimla upazila of the district yesterday.

The dead is Rozila Akhter, 19, daughter of cosmetics trader Rafiqul Islam of Pashchim Satnai village in the upazila.

Rozila married Rezaul Karim, son of Emdadul Huq of Thakurganj village, three years ago.

After their marriage, Rezaul and his family members often tortured Rozila for Tk 1.20 lakh dowry.

Yesterday morning following an altercation over the issue, they brutally tortured Rozila, leaving her dead on the spot , alleged the victim's father.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Dimla Police Station.

Preparation to file a case was going on in connection with the incident as of filing of this report around 6:00pm yesterday, said police.

In Jamalpur, police recovered the body of a woman in Nagerpara area of Melandah upazila town in the district the same day.  

The dead is Nurjahan Begum, 38, wife of Israfil of Sadhupur village in the upazila, reports our correspondent.

The victim had been living at her parents' house in the area for the last seven months as her husband stayed in Dhaka for job purpose.

Locals found the body hanging from a tree beside the house and informed the police around 10:00am.

The body was sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said OC Nasimul Islam of Melandah Police Station.

The reason behind the suicide could not be known immediately, he said.
