Police recovered the body of a housewife from her residence in Jamtola town of the district early yesterday

The victim was identified as Salma Akhtar, 29, wife of Ashik Iqbal Pappu, 38.

Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Salma, daughter of  Mohammad Yusuf of Dhaka, was married to Pappu eight years ago.

Since the marriage, Pappu, an alleged drug addict, used to torture Salma to bring dowry from her parents, the OC said, quoting victim's relatives and neighbours.

Salma, a mother of a five-year old boy, might have been strangled by her in-laws following an altercation, locals said.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body around 2:00am and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Sub-Inspector of the police station Khondaker Shaker Ahmed, also investigation officer (IO) of the case.

Police arrested Pappu, his younger brother Aslam Iqbal Sohel, 36, and elder sister Israt Jahan, 44, the IO said. They were later produced before a Mymensingh court that sent them to jail.

Victim's father lodged a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, accusing the three.
