The Joypurhat district unit of Awami League (AL) has recommended to the party's central committee to expel three local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) permanently and five others for three months for assaulting and attempting to abduct a senior journalist of Joypurhat on August 12.
The district AL committee in consultation with BCL and other associate bodies of the ruling party took the decision that was officially disclosed through a press release yesterday afternoon, said Zakaria Hossain Raza, president of Joypurhat BCL.
Recommendations have been made for permanent expulsion of Mostafizur Rahman Fizu, organisational secretary of Joypurhat district BCL, its member Md Apu, and Milon Hossain, a leader of Joypurhat Government College unit of BCL, from the party while there are suggestions to expel for three months five other activists for violating party discipline.
Primary memberships of the eight BCL activists have already been suspended, said party sources.
The BCL men on August 12 badly assaulted Mostakim Farrokh, Joypurhat correspondent of private television channel Desh.tv and Bangla daily Dainik Karatoa and tried to abduct him from Natunhat area in Joypurhat town when locals rescued him.
