Joypurhat Jamaat leader arrested in arson cases

A Jamaat leader was arrested from his residence in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district yesterday morning.

The arrestee is Anwar Hossain, treasurer of Panchbibi upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchbibi Police Station, said the Jamaat leader is an accused in arson cases filed with the police station during the countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led alliance in 2015.

Anwar had gone into hiding after the cases were filed against him, the OC added.
