Land dispute leaves one dead

A man was beaten to death over a land dispute in Mayarbazar area under Singra upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Shamsul Alam, 30, son of Moghor Ali of Vogabasantapur area of the upazila.

Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Singra Police Station, said there had been a longstanding feud between Shamsul Alam and his cousin Ruhul Amin over a piece of land.

Ruhul Amin and Shamsul Alam locked in a quarrel at noon. At one stage, Ruhul and his men attacked Shamsul with lethal weapons, leaving him critically injured.

Locals took Shamsul to Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 2:30pm.
