Mother takes own life after killing daughter

A woman committed suicide after killing her four-year-old daughter in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district on Saturday evening, police said.

The deceased were identified as Lily Begum, 25, wife of Md Likhan, and their daughter Monalisa, of Kapashikopa village under the upazila.

Police said the mother strangled her daughter first, and then hanged herself from the ceiling of her bedroom around 6:00pm.

On information, police recovered their bodies at around 8:00pm and sent them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Mahmudul Alam, officer-in-charge (of Parbatipur Police Station, said the woman's husband suffered from a serious kidney disease. The woman may have killed herself out of desperation, he added.
