‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Magura cops
An alleged robber was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Magura Sadar upazila early today.
After the "gunfight", police recovered the body of Kamal Hossain Sarder, 40, a leader of the district-based inter-district robber gang, from Moghirdhal area on Kushtia-Khulna highway.
Locals later helped the law enforcers to identify the deceased.
Kamal, son of Afsar Hossain of Shawladanga in Magura Sadar upazila was accused in five robbery cases filed with different police stations of the district, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.
Azmol Huda, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police station, told the correspondent they had information that a group of robbers was taking preparation for a robbery by blocking the highway with logs.
The robbers opened fire on the law enforcers when a patrol team of the Sadar Police Station raided the area around 3:30am, the OC said.
The "gunfight" took place between police and the robbers when the law enforcers retaliated, the OC claimed. At one stage, the robbers fled the scene.
One locally made rifle, one machete and a saw were also recovered from the spot, the police official said.
With the latest, total three robbers were killed in "gunfights" with police in the district this year since January, the OC added.
