Two sisters drown in Meghna

Two girls drowned in the Meghna River at Kawpara area in Narsingdi yesterday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Nur Jahan, 4, and Halima Akter, 3. Both were daughters of Jaman Mian, a transport worker.

The two sisters fell into the river while they were playing on the river bank.

When the other children started screaming, locals rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies after an extensive search.

AKM Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Model Police Station, said the bodies of the two girls were handed over to the family without post mortem examinations at the request of the family.

An unnatural death case was filed with the police station  concerned.
