Youth hurt as smugglers open fire on BGB men

A youth sustained bullet injuries when a gang of smugglers fired gunshots targeting the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel near Koya border in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district on Monday.

Injured Mohammad Sumon, 35, a farmer and son of Mohammad Mohiuddin of Chechra village in the upazila, is now undergoing treatment at Joypurhat Modern Hospital.

Quoting locals, BGB said a team of the border guards, acting on a tip-off, raided the area in the evening, when a gang were making preparation to bring Indian goods through the border illegally.

Aggrieved, the gang members fired three gunshots targeting the BGB men.

During the firing one of the stray bullets hit Sumon on the right foot, said Major Nasir Hossain of Joypurhat 3 Battalion.

Bullet hit Sumon was admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital, he said.
