Even without often taking on lead roles, actor Tarikuzzaman Tapan won the hearts of audiences with performances that evoked both laughter and tears. Despite battling a serious illness, he last faced the camera in February. He is now fighting a life-threatening form of cancer.

Describing his condition, his wife Sabina Helen Polly told Independent Digital on Tuesday (April 21), “A person who can’t move his hands or legs; can’t eat anything at all. He lies there all the time, in severe pain.”

According to family sources, Tapan has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer, which was detected in November last year. Doctors informed the family at the time that the disease had already reached its final stage.

He recently underwent chemotherapy at a hospital in the capital. Currently, he is receiving treatment at his residence in Aftabnagar, where he remains in critical condition. Although he was taken to PG Hospital earlier, his family was unable to secure admission.

The actor’s family is now struggling to cope with the high cost of treatment. His wife has appealed for government assistance. “We do not have the means to afford treatment for an illness like cancer. We are seeking help from the government. But we don’t have anyone who can assist us in this matter,” she said.

Tarikuzzaman Tapan is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. Sabina Helen Polly is a homemaker.

Over the course of his career, Tapan appeared in numerous television dramas and several films. His notable films include “Alta Banu”, “Thikana”, and “Ja Chhilo Ondhokare”. His widely discussed television works include “Jora Shalik, “Hatchhani”, “Olpe Golpe”, and “Mrittikar Jatra”.
