Mad Theatre stages ‘Rabindranather Dwitiyo Bijoya’ today at BSA

Mad Theatre's second production, “Rabindranather Dwitiyo Bijoya”, returns to the stage today (Tuesday) with its 12th performance at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka. The production was created to commemorate the centenary of the historic meeting between Rabindranath Tagore and Argentine writer Victoria Ocampo.

Tagore and Ocampo met by chance in Argentina in 1924. Although their encounter was unplanned, it became one of the most memorable episodes in the poet's later life. During his stay at Ocampo's white riverside residence, away from the bustle of the city, Tagore spent several memorable days as her guest. Their conversations, shared silences and exchange of ideas fostered a profound intellectual and emotional connection, against the backdrop of the Southern Hemisphere's spring gradually giving way to summer.

“Rabindranather Dwitiyo Bijoya” is written, directed and conceived by Asadul Islam, the chief director of Mad Theatre. Featuring only two characters, the production stars Asadul Islam as Rabindranath Tagore and Sonia Hassan as Victoria Ocampo.
