Nartanam Dance Academy stages debut production ‘Anweshan’
Nartanam Dance Academy staged its debut production, “Anweshan”, on August 21 at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity in the capital.
Performed before a full house, the production featured 51 students, many of whom were taking the stage for the first time.
Centred on humanity’s lifelong search for love, security, happiness, companionship, dreams, success, identity and meaning, “Anweshan” brought the journey to the stage through a combination of dance, music, acting and stagecraft.
The production was conceptualised and artistically directed by Manomi Tanjana Orthy.
“‘Anweshan’ is not merely a dance production for me; it is the story of a journey we have undertaken together,” Orthy said. “This success was made possible through the collective efforts of 51 students, artistes, collaborators, volunteers and well-wishers.”
Reflecting on the audience response, she added, “Seeing the students perform before a full house and receiving so much love from the audience has left me truly grateful and delighted.”
For many of the participating students, “Anweshan” marked their first experience performing on a major stage. According to the academy, their performances were met with an encouraging response from the audience.
Orthy described the production as the beginning of a longer journey for the academy, with plans to create more ambitious productions and expand opportunities for students to perform and develop their craft.
“Our goal is to provide our students with more opportunities to perform, learn and explore new avenues of creativity,” she said.
The academy hopes to build on its debut by developing larger and more diverse productions in the future.
