Veteran television personality Mostafizur Rahman laid to rest
Renowned television personality, producer and former Director-General of Bangladesh Television (BTV) Mostafizur Rahman has been laid to rest at Banani graveyard in Dhaka. He was buried today (Wednesday), after three funeral prayers held across the city.
Mostafizur Rahman passed away on Sunday evening (July 26). He was 84 years old. His body had been kept in the morgue of a hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka, until his two sons, who live abroad, could return home. His younger son, Abhi Mostafiz, arrived from Sydney, Australia, and his elder son, Rana Mostafiz, from Toronto, Canada. The family then arranged his burial for today. His wife, renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Rowshan Ara Mostafiz, confirmed this to Prothom Alo.
The first funeral prayer was held at the BTV building this morning, where colleagues and well-wishers paid their respects. The body was then taken to the Channel i office for a second funeral prayer, followed by a third and final prayer at Uttara Sector 3 Jame Masjid after Zohr. Mostafizur Rahman was then buried at Banani graveyard.
Those present at the funeral prayers included Channel i managing director Faridur Reza Sagar, former BTV general manager M Hamid, film director Habibul Islam, instrumentalist Gazi Abdul Hakim, and actress Afsana Mimi, along with family members.
He was one of the leading directors and producers of BTV's golden era. Among his most celebrated works are "Sokal Shondha", "Eishob Dinratri" and "Shankhonil Karagar", productions that remain widely acclaimed by audiences. He also played a key role in founding Banglavision and Gazi TV (GTV). His creative vision and innovative approach played a defining role in the evolution of television drama in Bangladesh.
