Prachyanat School of Acting and Design to celebrate silver jubilee with theatre festival
To mark its 25th anniversary, Prachyanat School of Acting and Design, one of Bangladesh's leading theatre training institutions, has organised a two-day Silver Jubilee Festival. The celebrations will take place on July 30 and 31 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Established in 2001, Prachyanat School of Acting and Design has trained more than 2,500 students through 50 batches over the past 25 years. The institution is currently conducting its 51st batch. Alongside acting, the school offers practical training in lighting, costume design, stagecraft, theatre games, street theatre, improvisation, basic videography and multimedia.
According to the organisers, many of the school's graduates have gone on to build successful careers in theatre, television, film, advertising, education and the wider cultural sector.
Several alumni have also pursued higher education at universities across India, Europe and North America.
The festival will open on July 30 at 6 pm with an inaugural ceremony, a discussion session, and the graduation and certificate presentation for the 50th batch. Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will inaugurate the event as chief guest. Novelist Afsana Begum and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin will attend as special guests.
At 7:30 pm on the same day, the 50th batch's graduation production, “Rother Roshi” by Rabindranath Tagore, will be staged. Sahana Rahman Sumi has directed the production.
The second day of the festival, on July 31, will feature a seminar titled Natoke Shikkha O Matyoshikkha: Prekkhit Bangladesher Shomokalin Shomaj O Shongskriti Shirshok Seminar (Theatre in Education and Theatre Education: Contemporary Perspectives on Bangladesh's Society and Culture). The keynote paper will be presented by Dr Saidur Rahman Lipon, while Asim Das will serve as the lead discussant. Other panellists include Kazi Roksana Ruma, Reza Arif, Umme Farhana, Shamima Showkat Lovely, Jamil Ahmed and Azad Abul Kalam.
Following the seminar, the festival will host a flash mob performance, an open discussion session, performances by various theatre groups, tributes to deceased teachers and students, a felicitation ceremony, and a range of activities featuring both current students and alumni of Prachyanat School of Acting and Design.
