Written by Italian playwrights Dario Fo and Franca Rame, the play has been adapted from English into Bangla by Prof Abdus Selim and directed by M Sayeed.

Printmaking has often remained one of the lesser-explored forms within Bangladesh’s art scene – admired within artistic circles, yet less familiar to wider audiences than painting or sculpture. Over the past few weeks, however, Kala Kendra in Lalmatia has turned renewed attention toward the medium through its month-long printmaking festival, drawing visitors into a world of layered textures, memory, and experimentation.

The exhibition presents around 100 works created between 2024 and 2026. The works span acrylic, spray, pastel, prints, and digital media.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, inaugurated the art exhibition “Sampriti” at its Gulshan premises yesterday (May 7), bringing together artists, scholars, diplomats, and cultural personalities for an evening of art, music, and cultural exchange.

Prof Das will receive the award for his contributions to Rabindranath Tagore research, while Bulbul Islam is being recognised for his work in Rabindra Sangeet.

His characters feel deeply, sometimes overwhelmingly so, but they do not always understand what they feel, or what others feel in return.

It is easier to preserve the grand aesthetics of Tagore than to confront the difficult ones. Rabindra Sangeet survives in carefully rehearsed cadence, quotations circulate endlessly online, and institutions commemorate him with ritual precision.

Organised with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the event will feature Rabindra Sangeet, dance, recitations, discussions, theatre productions and an art exhibition dedicated to the Nobel laureate poet.

Through diverse mediums including painting, sculpture, textiles, and printmaking, the exhibition explored themes of compassion, interconnectedness, and shared humanity.

Married since 1993, the two have built parallel careers in music and dance but have not previously appeared together as co-performers. Munmun Ahmed said the idea grew from audience interest in seeing a joint presentation. “We understand each other well. This kind of collaboration can create a distinct stage experience,” she said.

The three-month online diploma will provide training in playwriting, script reading, directing, acting, stage design, and lighting. After completing the course, participants will take part in three theatre productions in Bangladesh.

Titled “Domer Madar Theatre Festival: Journey to 80”, the programme will feature five performances of the production between May 6 and May 8. Shows are scheduled daily at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

Organised by the Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, the 37th edition of the festival will take place at the Liberation War Museum auditorium in Agargaon. Preparations are now in their final stage, with artists engaged in regular rehearsals.

The Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University marked the 80th birth anniversary of Professor Matlub Ali on the evening of April 26 with an exhibition of his paintings, live musical performances, and a tribute discussion.

As part of the anniversary programme, Prangone Mor will stage “Tiner Talowar” on May 6 at 7 pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The production revisited the well-known Bengali story by Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury, later adapted into a film by Satyajit Ray. Combining dialogue, music and movement, the staging aimed to bring the familiar narrative to a live audience through a mix of theatrical and technical elements.

The programme was organised by the Music, Dance and Recitation Department under the management of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The exhibition, which opened on April 14 at the Nazrul Stage and continued at Bardhaman House, featured more than a hundred portraits of prominent Bangladeshi poets, writers, essayists, and intellectuals. It also included rare photographs of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Since 1982, Aranyak has been regularly observing International Workers' Day, and this year is no exception. To mark the occasion, the troupe has arranged a daylong programme, while theatre group BotTola will stage two performances of the children’s play "Bonnotheriam".

The festival continues with performances from a wider lineup of troupes over two days and remains open to all audiences.
