Four Bangladeshi documentary film projects have been selected to participate in Cannes Docs 2026, one of the world’s leading platforms for documentary filmmakers, producers, broadcasters, and distributors.

The selected projects are “Opekkha” by Kazi Arefin Ahmed, “Blue-Collars from the Frontline” by Citto Aanondi (Sumaiya Binte Selim), “In Search of Her” produced by S M Kamrul Ahsan, and “My Cousin” by Sumon Delwar.

The projects were chosen following a national open call held in September 2025, alongside a multi-stage jury evaluation process. According to organisers, the selected works were recognised for their artistic merit, distinctive directorial voices, and international potential.

The initiative has been organised by Alliance Française Chittagong and Bisubo Art Organization, with support from the French PICC grant programme.

The selected projects reflect a wide range of contemporary Bangladeshi realities and human experiences.

“Opekkha” follows an ageing grandmother separated from her family after a visa rejection, as her filmmaker grandson attempts to preserve her memories before dementia gradually erases them.

“Blue-Collars from the Frontline” explores the lives of three generations of women in rural Bangladesh whose families are shaped by migration, war, and survival, revealing how conflict becomes tied to economic necessity.

“In Search of Her” centres on two middle-aged Dutch adoptees, Mojnu and Bianca, as they return to Bangladesh to trace their origins and uncover a hidden history surrounding stolen children.

Meanwhile, “My Cousin” tells the story of a Bangladeshi migrant worker’s widow who discovers she is HIV-positive after her husband’s death and faces resistance from family and society while seeking financial independence.

Participation in Cannes Docs is expected to provide the filmmakers with opportunities for international co-production, distribution, networking, and long-term collaboration in the global documentary industry.
